WINTERING

Wintering is the candle of evening.

It belongs to the hours when the day begins to close in on itself. When lamps are lit early, curtains are drawn, and the room settles into something softer, warmer, more contained. The relief of a day that is finally ending.

Lavender and thyme open with calm and a quiet herbaceous familiarity. Ylang ylang adds a gentle warmth beneath, steady rather than heavy. The kind of warmth that says you're home now, you can stop. It doesn't fill a space all at once. It settles into it.

On the reverse: "I honour my need for rest."

This is a candle for unwinding without urgency. For moving gently. For letting the edges of the day soften.

Scent notes: Lavender · Thyme · Ylang ylang

Burn time: Approximately 50 hours with proper care.

Made with: Natural soy wax and pure essential oils · Raw nude ceramic vessel handmade in Stoke-on-Trent, made to be kept · Hand-poured in small batches in Surrey

Candle care: Before each burn, check the wick is upright and free of charred fragments, snapping or trimming any away so it's no longer than 5mm. On the first burn, let the wax melt fully to the edges, usually 2 to 3 hours, to prevent tunnelling. Keep it out of draughts, never leave it burning unattended, and burn on a heat-safe surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wax is used?

All Lil & Dot candles are hand-poured using natural soy wax — a cleaner, slower-burning alternative to paraffin, with a softer scent throw that builds gradually rather than filling a room all at once.

What is the vessel made from?

Each candle is housed in a raw nude ceramic vessel, handmade and designed to remain beautiful long after the candle has burned down. Keep it as a vessel, a bud vase, or a small storage pot.

How long does each candle burn?

Approximately 50 hours with proper care. Trim the wick to 5mm before each burn and allow the wax to pool to the edges on the first light.

Where are they made?

The candles are hand-poured in small batches in the UK by our makers. The ceramic vessels are handmade. The collection is designed by artist Heather Wood.

How many are available?

This is a small first run, hand-poured in limited numbers. Once they're gone, the next batch depends on production of new vessels. If you'd like to be first to know about restocks, join the Lil & Dot Circle.
